Hilo Denim Repair: Projects
Hilo provides users with an easy way to repair holes in denim, without requiring any sewing skills. It is designed to automate traditional sewing methods to create a sturdy grid-like pattern and strengthen the fabric, rather than simply covering the hole as you would with a patch.

Novelty
Hilo's stitching mechanism is entirely novel. It uses a helical needle driven by a high friction roller to stitch over and under the fabric, creating a zig-zag stitch pattern by simply driving the needle forward.

Prototyping
Our finalized prototype was manufactured using a combination of FDM 3D printers, CNC lathe and CNC mills. It was powered by a DC power supply and controlled via arduino.
